Review: ASSTR.ORG -- All the erotica that's fit to print. And more.

If you're looking for that one perfect erotic/pornographic story by that one perfect author chances are you'll find it somewhere on ASSTR.ORG. What began life as a mirror site for the popular Alt.Sex.Stories newsgroup has become a major repository and host for a huge number of authors of almost every skill level, genre, and persuasion. It's all free, all tidily organized, and search-able.

My favorite way to find out what's going on in the world of non-commercial erotica and porn is to check out the (non-syndicated) feed of what's been added in the last 24 hours. To check that out go to their Recent Uploads page where you'll find anywhere from dozens to hundreds of stories in no particular order whatever.

I ought to mention it's a pretty mixed bag. Since it's just links to raw uploads you'll often find a lot of repetition between html, text, and pdf representations of the same story. Some authors use tools that re-upload their entire site instead of just new work. Sometimes if a piece is well received others will upload copies of their own.

It's also a mixed bag in the sense that, well, there are a lot of people out there with tastes that don't match mine. Call me a libertine prude if you like, but I'm just hoping some of these stories provide a necessary outlet for what I *ardently* hope are never-actualized fantasies! And don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly aware that fantasies often have no bearing on real life. Mine for instance. I'm just saying that as an advocate of real, consensual, *adult* sex I hope those fantasies remain only that.

Disclaimers and peevishness notwithstanding, once you figure out how to filter out what *you're* not interested in, some of those stories are just plain hot! I love this site.

What I particularly like about ASSTR.org, besides the vast array of material to while away a quiet afternoon, is the hands-free reading scroll thingy.

[I think a lot of people really like that feature though it drives me crazy -- probably because I scroll back and forth a lot. Thanks, Orchid. --fl]
