Equal protection under the law

How seriously did the party of the "moral majority" take sexual solicitation of minors?

How about

How about

Look. You can call this a scandal (it's that), or an outrage (that too), a crime (it's certainly that) or whatever partisan thing you want to call it. But it's also just a hell of a letdown. If you can't even protect children why even get up in the morning?

I can't think of anything intelligent to say but party affiliations aside this is just outrageous. And I have a sinking feeling just another of a laundry list of things that will go unchallenged.

[Yup, and it's not strictly about party affiliation -- it's more about cultures of management where management decisions by leaders of the party in question permit exactly this sort of behavior. Though I might not join such a party it's perfectly possible to have a socially conservative, sexually repressive, religiously minded, nativist, and internationally aggessive political party that does not facilitate this sort of behavior among its members. Can't say whether House leaders were looking to protect a member of their party or simply a Member of Congress, but it would seem at the least, that they were taking care of one of their own (i.e., a fellow Congressman).

Lots of parallels here between Congress and the Catholic Church in terms of their mentalities/outlooks; they seem to feel that they're ultimately accountable only to themselves. The big difference, of course, is that can vote the scoundrels out of Congress, not so the Church.

Speaker of the House Hastert has apparently asked the U.S. Attorney General to investigate Foley, and possibly others in the House power structure, regarding possible felony and its coverup (misprision of a felony, which is another/another felony, btw). Without commenting on possible outcomes/Constitutional implications of a Republican AG investigating a Republican Congress, let's see what happens......

[First of all, were the shoe been on the other foot Hastert et. al. certainly would have totally blown a gasket had it been revealed that pages for the opposition were warned but not pages from their own party. Also, Speaker Hastert has apparently asked for an investigation, yes, but one structured to shield rather than examine "upper management." And while you're right that, at least with a Lousiana congressman up on corruption charges, they've been willing to stand by members of the opposition party. However I'm pretty confident that had Foley been in the opposition they would not have protected him at all, at all. Thanks, Tambopaxi. --fl]
