Hide-the-pickle HNT

| | Comments (5)

In keeping with Osbasso's suggestion here are gift wishes for just a few of my earliest blogger friends:

- For Madame X I wish for a paid job acting, directing, and choreographing in a financially secure small-theater production company.

- For Chelsea Girl I wish for a three-book contract, with big advance, from an academically-inclined but not at all straight-laced publisher.

- For AlwaysArousedGirl I wish for an unlimited supply of batteries and an inspired partner (ideally a partner who's otherwise just taking up space in her house) to help her change them.... and wear them out.

Somewhere in the past we had a whole set of vegetable-shaped tree ornaments. After ten years of trees with small children only one survives: the pickle. I thought I'd better record it for posterity, just in case.

Happy HNT (or Half-nekkid Thursday!)

Thank you, Fig, that's very sweet. May all your Chrismukkwanzivus wishes come true for you and yours.

THAT would be the best gift ever!

We have a pickle ornament it is a tradition in German families (granny was German) to hide the pickle in the tree and who ever found it received a special gift.

Since you found the pickle I've got something special for you! ;)

[Yup, I think one of my sisters-in-law told my kids about that game. They always make us wait to decorate the tree for about half a day while they play it. (I'm just glad they were never told about the get-a-present prize.) Glad to know our family isn't the only one though. Thank you, Madame. --fl]

Still late LOL. But the picture is great. Happy belated HNT.

[I was pretty late but it's a wonderful zoo around the house this time of year. Thanks, Cat. --fl]

How sweet of you, Figleaf. I appreciate it! You have a wonderful holiday with your little ornament-breakers too!

Hug.

[It's very late on Christmas Eve and I finally got time to reply to comments. I've just spent half an hour totally faking out Santa-style footprints in the fireplace ashes so thanks, I suspect we'll have a blast with the ornament breakers in the morning. Thanks, AAG, and Merry Christmas to you. --fl]

Your pickles are very different from my pickles :)

Never mind if your decorations are broken, with young children you will surely have a ready and continuous supply of homemade replacements, which you *must* treasure and preserve for posterity. They are truly unique.

[Absolutely, A, I keep all of them. Thanks. --fl]
