Z of The Naked Truth says
The other day, someone said to me that this is not a sex blog, it’s an emotion blog. Is it? I don’t know. Maybe it’s a sex-through-a-veil-of-emotion blog, or an emotion-through-a-veil-of-sex-blog, or it’s more of a relationship blog than a sex one, mainly detailing the close and generally fulfilling one between my body and my head.
Funny how you never hear people say “well, he’s not a real a food blogger” or “You couldn’t really call her a transportation policy blogger.”
Something similar popped up in comments when The Ethical Slut discussed vulvodynia, a decidedly sex-related topic for her because it was getting in the way of (ok, effectively wrecking) her ability to enjoy intercourse. The commenter said “Wow, the writing here has gotten to be a bit of a downer. Meh. Buh bye.”
Anyway, I got a little lightbulb reading Z’s post though and I think maybe the distinction isn’t sex vs. non-sex blogs but sex vs. reliable-wank-material blogs. (And by the way I think TES’s retort to her commenter supports my contention.)
Anyway this is all kind of a nuisance. On the one hand you’re not a “sex blogger” if you don’t reel off your nightly encounters. Meanwhile for everyone else if you use any of the Carlin words it’s off to the pink ghetto, never to be seen by Google or Ad-Sense again.

I had a recent rant at my place about someone wanting to know why the sex-positive blogs didn't have more photos of sexy men.
To which my response was mostly "I'm writing a blog that's sex-positive, not supplying wank material."
Though I want to write a wanky post, kind of. Need to get permission from relevant partner first ....

[If I'm not mistaken the question wasn't why not more photos of men, it was "why such a high women-to-men ratio." But point taken. Thanks, Dw3t. --fl]

The few sex blogs that I read are like yours - people who focus more on social and political aspects of sexuality. I did try a few that were mostly about their own sex life, but they mostly ended up being a blatant and irritating reminder that I have yet to have a sex life of my own in any meaningful sense of the term. (A few one-day stands, each a few years apart, doesn't count.)

I think of my blog as a sex blog because it is an outlet for me to talk freely and anonymously about my sex life, leanings, likes and dislikes, experiences and failures. I don't write it for the titillation of others except on occasions where I have tried my hand at writing erotic/pornographic fiction.
As far as blogs I like to read - they range from yours, which I think of as a serious study of sexuality in society in all its aspects, to others which I read out of curiosity to find out what the various fetishes really involve for the people concerned. And then there are those finely written descriptions of intense sexual experiences that are so accomplished in their use of language and imagery that I read for pure pleasure.
[I know! It's not that I don't like salacious writing (I rather do!) it's that it's harder to get into without *context!* It'd be like a food blog that only talked about "when the food arrived at my table I..." :-) Thanks, LR. --fl]

Thank you!
I'm actually working on a new blog since I don't have much sex to talk about and google ads won't support my "obscene" site....
Sigh.
[Any time. Thanks, ES. --fl]
