Silver Lining?

Via Jessica of Jezebel the final version of that new HHS memo meant to "protect the rights" of anti-choice doctors is out.

HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt says. “Doctors and other health care providers should not be forced to choose between good professional standing and violating their conscience. Freedom of expression and action should not be surrendered upon the issuance of a health care degree.”

Read the quote in context here.

Does that mean doctors may now in good conscience ignore the South Dakota law requiring them to lie about abortion procedures?

What about their violations of their contracts and is their duty a lesser moral standard than their conscience?

Many, many non hormonal drugs may have the consequences of death, for instance, warfarin the blood thinner is similar to rat poison. The pharmacist dispenses anyway determining the doctor has made the right choice. Does those who "conscience" guide them always talk to the person to make sure they know how dangerous their prescription is or do they just hand them the printout. Is there any way the public make sure that they use their "conscience" equitably. We need the moral police! Does this violate the constitution as the Micheal Levitt does establishing his religion as the national one?

[That's an excellent point, Five! Why so much concern about *that one procedure* when so many others are so perilous? Thanks! --fl]
