How's About Cookin' Somethin' Up With Me?

So sure, it takes longer to make scratch waffles with fresh-toasted pecans in the batter and sliced fruit and whipped cream and a delicate lacing of thick maple syrup on top than it takes to scramble an egg. But do we ever say it's a *problem* that waffles take longer to make than scrambled eggs?

Since cooking is, for me, highly meditative, I'd say that the waffles have the edge over the eggs.

No, it is not a problem. What can I bring over to make your breakfast time complete? Sausage, bacon, mimosas?

Apparently we do, if Eggos are anything to go by.

[Yeah, well there's that too. I guess analogies can only go so far. :-) Thanks, Holly. --fl]

Since all my dietary changes early this year, I've learned a lot about cooking; I'm a lot better at it, and I enjoy it more. Although there are times when I really wish I could have the convenience of fast food -- but not the actual fast food, ugh!

Too bad waffles are right out thanks to the gluten. I tried my own take on a gluten free cornbread a couple of days ago; it was pretty awful. Like a rock.

[Take heart, Monique. There's a bakery down the road a ways from me that specializes in gluten-free pastries. There are all sorts of tricks that let you use not-actually-inorganic ingredients like xanthan gum (evidently some kind of brewing byproduct) to create the right consistency. That and I'm pretty sure there are some good gluten-free cookbooks out there. And even if you can't do waffles the point would work as well with, I dunno, slow-cook barbeque. Thanks! --fl]

Only when the cook is lazy and just wants you to eat your damn eggs already!

Otherwise...waffles are always worth the effort and the wait. Especially if the alternative is to go hungry.

You made me hungry ;)

[More to the point, while we might sympathize with someone who just can't cook very well who has patience for someone too lazy to make an extra effort for company? :-) --fl]
