Being pretty is all good and well, but I feel compelled to mention that the best long-term relationships of my life (including the one I’m currently in) started in large part because those men were attracted to my intellect and personality. They already found me physically attractive, but what made the difference between a just crush versus the motivation to pursue an actual relationship were the conversations and discussions we had. They liked that I was smart.
So yeah, maybe being pretty is the important thing if you’re just looking for sex and nothing else. But when it comes to relationships, being smart counts for plenty.
[Yup. It’s a stupid assertion. A variation I heard a few years ago, from someone I think would have had a little more perspective said “given two women with equal personalities and interest in him a guy’s going to go for the better looking one every time.” Which of course is perfectly true… for anybody, not just men. But the other side would then be “given two potential partners with equal appearance a person is going to go for the better personality and greater interest.” In other words he was just saying we assess multiple factors when we choose partners, which stops sounding profound at all.
