Happy blogiversary! It’s been a wildly productive and interesting five years.

I know exactly what you mean, about not being able to write about your own sex life without violating your partners’ privacy, and it’s something I’ve struggled with and gone back and forth on over the years. Ultimately I’ve come up with something like HIPAA standards—if there’s no name or identifying details, it’s okay to share the case history. But this is something every blogger must decide for themselves, I guess.

It’s nice to see your face and hear you being so honest on your blogiversary. I wish we could all do that…

Just today I was talking with another sex blogger (Quizzical Pussy, she’s awesome) about the weird “closeting” we have to do. Our families and coworkers know, or at least could presume if they thought about it, that we’re having sex, and we’re not writing about anything unethical or dangerous or super-outrageous, yet somehow we still feel the need to hide. I have absolutely no doubt that if I were “caught” by my family they’d demand I delete the blog and if it was my work they’d fire me. I guess talking about sex is the outrageous thing.

Well, keep being outrageous, Figleaf. The more of us sex freaks there are out here in Blogland, the less freaky we have to feel.

It definitely gives me pause in how much detail I give about any of my exes, given that I’m not at all anonymous, have a readily countable number of exes, and actually most of them could be identified from my blog (even, perhaps, the ones I leave anonymous in my posts, if the person reading is someone who knew me at Stanford).

It’s nice to see you, David. I’ve been reading your blog since I found it about a year ago. I’ve found it very eye opening, and it’s helped me define/redefine how I feel about some issues. I wish I could force everyone I know to read your blog and confront some of these issues you address!
