Half-Nekkid Nostalgia

Thu, 2010-04-15 23:14

So I haven’t been doing the HNT (or Half-nekkid Thursday!) meme for a couple of months. I used to do it all the time… but then I used to post all sorts of half- and even more-naked photos of myself, back when I was exploring the notion of heterosexual men as erotic figures.

So I came back from a run early yesterday afternoon, and, feeling all sweaty and healthy and pretty darn good, in a bright, sunlit home office in an upstairs room, with a big comfy chair to collapse into, and I notice my camera on the desk, already pointing in my general direction.

So I took some photos, just for old time sake. It was a lot more fun than thought.

But taking photos can be a lot more fun for me than seeing photos might be for you.

And it’s already Friday morning and it just occurred to me to ask.

What’s your take? Did you come by when I used to post photos, on Thursdays or otherwise? Are you glad I stopped. Sorry?

I don’t know if I’ll start again. But I never asked if I should stop. But I might as well ask which you thought was a good idea — that I started in the first place, or that I stopped?

Hi Figleaf! Personally, I’m

Hi Figleaf! Personally, I’m torn. I stumbled on your blog last year and spent hours reading old posts. I love the way you think and express yourself but I have to admit, the HNT photos were a tremendous motivation for me. First, wanting access to your private photos was what finally prompted me to quit lurking and actually send you an email lol. (I was blogging under another name then.) Your photos are great (sometimes witty, sometimes “pretty”, always interesting, and to me very, very sexy) but they also show a real adult man in a wonderfully sexual light.

I remember reading a post Holly Pervocracy wrote about you (“Why is this man sexy? was the title I think. Sorry, not time to go find it and link.) and remember thinking, ‘that’s a good question, because he is.’ And it really helped expand my notions of what is and isn’t sexy to me. It (combined with your writing) helped me to recognize how much of my sexuality was shaped and limited by other people’s whacked notions about women and men.

And on a more base level, you had the freakin’ sexiest male HNT shots out there and I miss them. On the same vein, as much as I love your wicked smart analysis and observations, I also miss the more erotic writing and I confess, I have gone back in your archives to find it once or twice (or maybe three times. Tops. I swear.)

So count me on the “I wish you’d post one every now and then” group. But if you don’t, I won’t quit being a regular reader and Figleaf fan. Your sexy just seems to come through.

All the best,
Ivey

Here it is:

(On a hunch, I chose “shameless fawning” from her categories, and there it was.)

I liked the photos, although

I liked the photos, although I would/will still read RAS without them. I remember you writing about the dearth of good sexy photos of men online, and that dearth is still happening, so why not keep trying to counteract it? :) It was also just neat to see the way a photo could be set up (angles, lighting, etc.).

I find your posts always

I find your posts always brain-stimulating and intriguing, but I do miss the weekly Thursday stimulation of other parts of my body. Rowr.

I always enjoyed your photos.

I always enjoyed your photos. And I loved that you did sets of them, and I could see the progression in a series on flickr.

Stopping or starting HNT is such a personal choice, or should be. But I don’t think too many people are going to argue if you do it again every now and then. :)

peace…

Hi Figleaf – I always thought

Hi Figleaf – I always thought your photos were a great part of your blog…you always had an interesting play on words or title for the group of photos you posted. You’re a very good photographer and I think it ads some additional character to your blog. Even if you don’t do the HNT thing, photos are always a nice break from a page full of words.

just my 2 cents!!

Mike

I quite liked them. But on

I quite liked them. But on the other hand I might have liked them thanks to the hmm, inspired aspect they had. So I’ll like more, if you’re so inspired again. In any case, I still like reading you.

Well. I know the ladies at

Well. I know the ladies at The Female Gaze LJ comm (off-shoot of Filament Magazine’s LJ) were quite appreciative when I shared your blog with them several months back, because there just aren’t enough men taking half-nekkid pictures of themselves being regular people. I’ll understand if you don’t want to start up HNT again, and I come to your blog for your thoughts as well, but I really like HNT.

Personally I came to the blog

Personally I came to the blog due to a link about an article on how women and men having sex is written in literature. And then I just kept reading back through the archives because the blogposts was/are so great. So for me the HNT photos was not a part of reading this blog, but I didn’t mind them. If I wanted I could just skip those post. ;)
Maybe I just prefer the written word as stimulation (for my intellect), but I’ll admit to always having had a love for words, so… Photos are great, but not the reason I follow your blog.
