Personal Note: I'll Be in San Francisco This Afternoon Through Wednesday Evening

I’m going to a tech conference and staying in the general Moscone Center starting… well… this afternoon! I have no idea what an enterprising f pants-on sex-and-relationships blogger can do in the Bay Area. Any must-see attractions I, well, must see? (I can probably find Fisherman’s Wharf on my own, and I’ll be just down the way from the Ferry Terminal and, I think, Chinatown.) Also any events, meetups, presentations, readings, exhibitions, or lectures I ought to catch while I’m in town?

If you’re a regular reader or blogger in the area (can’t be more than a million, I know, but don’t be shy) then drop me a line if you’d like to join me for lunch, supper, or coffee.

Wish me luck.

I’m on the other side of the continent but have a few suggestions: First, if you’re staying near Chinatown I highly recommend “The House of Nanking.” It is awesome food, there is always a line out the door, but FYI, the service is, ahem, unusual. However, the food is great!

Also, if you’re down by the warf, the San Francisco Maritime National Park is, in my opinion, a must see. The USS Pampanito (submarine) is thre but also lots of other ships including the 1886 square-rigged “Balcutha” and the 1895 schooner the “CA Thayer.” The tug is cool too. :)

I could go on and on (big fan of the Japanese Garden in Golden Gate Park and the Modern Art Museum in the same area), but these are my tops near where you’re staying.

Sorry I’m not near enough to join you for coffee but it’s a hell of a trip from Florida. Have fun!

[Thanks for the suggestions, Ivey. I’m looking forward to it. Sorry about missing out on coffee too. I’ll be on the other coast again one of these years though. —fl]

Ack! I wish I had known this earlier, I could have planned for it and come to see you. I live less than 2hrs from SF and just can’t make it out that way right now.

Have fun!!!

I work in the financial district, so super close to there… trying to figure out if I have time for lunch this week. Umm… maybe on Monday? If not lunch, maybe coffee after work.

This thing gives you access to my email, right? Email me if you think that will work.

I live in the East Bay, and I’d love to grab something either in SF or here, if you’ve got the time. (There’s some phenomenal pizza in Berkeley, Cheeseboard, and there’s also a great crepes place in the Mission that I love and take people to.)

As a foreigner, I recommend one of the Café Gratitudes (http://www.cafegratitude.com/locations), it is one of the things that make Californians seem to have come from Outer Space or from a movie. Or just plain amazingly unbelievable.

Thanks for the great tips. I

Thanks for the great tips. I start exploring some of them this afternoon. (Thank goodness for the walking/transit directions feature in Google Maps!)

I was just there last

I was just there last week/weekend (SF/the Moscone Center) for a conference and I just had a great time going for a run on the Embarcadero, around Giants Stadium, and through the Market Street area in the early morning, then stopping for some great pastry/coffee at one of the mom-and-pop little bakery/delis. I also wandered around the Mission District…lots of quirky shops and pubs and eateries, a mix of the old Latino neighborhood meets the encroaching hipsters. I’m sure you’ll have a great time people-watching, sightseeing, and eating wherever you go :)
