Over time it's probably more clear that his "Jenkins" character is obnoxiously self-absorbed but not Aspy. There is a low but non-zero chance that the real person is a techie, though, so it could still be a UNIX beard. As for the stereotype that all UNIX guys can grow beards I'd offer the stereotypical PFY as a counterexample. Finally, though, yes, the stereotypes are so thick they burn.
