HNT

HNT - Everyday... Er... Every Night Nakedness

We spend far more time naked than we let on. As when we stump out of bed in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, to get a glass of water, or to raid the refrigerator.

HNT - Railings

One challenge of not having a lot of time to myself, and working at home, and not going out much, and taking responsibility for keeping the place tidy, and not having a lot of curtains, and taking half-nekkid photos of myself…

Is that there are only so many times and places around the house where you can set up a camera and take pictures in peace and quiet.

I found a new one this afternoon.

Thank goodness for stair halls!

p.s. I used to get teased a lot for never taking photos from behind. The railing was a little… lower than I thought. Two birds, one stone, I hope. :-)

ALSO! Because some folks would prefer this was more of a work-safe blog I’ll be experimenting over the next few weeks. This week I’m trying a really simple (maybe too simple) javascript hack. Hover the mouse over an icon to see an image. Click it to hide it again. One caveat — because clicking one image can roll you over another it can be a bit of a video game trying to put them all back into work-safe icon form. Easy fix? Refresh the page (Ctrl+R for most Windows browsers, Cmd+R for most Macs.) If you like it feel free to let me know. If you hate it, or even if it just doesn’t work for you then definitely let me know!

HNT -Generous Shadows

Early in the morning in an overhead lightbulb I look like I get to the gym more than three times a month. I hadn’t had coffee yet but I had found my pants (belt not yet plugged into them.) There was a phone in the pocket and a camera on the phone and a mirror on the opposite door and… there you go.

HNT - Finger Shibari

I wouldn’t tease BDSM people about Japanese-style bondage techniques if I didn’t have a lot of respect for the skill that goes into it. Part of the problem is I can’t even do cat’s cradle string patterns without getting all tangled up.

HNT - Kitchen Cleanup

Well, you know how it is. It’s late. You have a few moments to yourself… a little intimate time… when you could snap a couple of elegantly-posed photos…

And then you look at the clock. Goodness, time’s flying and priorities get shifted.

I’m sure that’s never happened to you. :-)

HNT Editorial: "Sex" Tapes and the Mundanity of Women in Winter Pants

Anna N of Jezebel has some information for your Half-Nekkid Thursday “I told you so” files.

Carrie Prejean may have called her sex tape “the biggest mistake of my life,” but according to Salon, we are totally over watching celebrities bone.

Salon’s Mary Elizabeth Williams writes that “it was a big freaking deal when Rob Lowe had a romp with underage girls or Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee enjoyed connubial bliss,” but that after the creepy night-vision of “1 Night in Paris,” the cultural relevance of the sex tape began to wane.

...

It’s true that it’s hard to imagine one of the main tragedies of Trainspotting — Tommy’s life is basically destroyed after he and his girlfriend make a sex tape — taking place today.

She said it here.

It’s not that there are zero consequences and so everyone should just start taking and/or sharing their half-or-more-nekkid photos.

It’s more the opposite, actually.

It’s that the more people who take and/or share their half-or-more-nekkid photos the fewer consequences there are likely to be.

It’s sort of like women wearing pants. When I was in 7th grade the first girl, ever, to wear pants to school was marched right back down to the office and sent straight back home. That she was a “good girl,” with excellent grades, high participation in school activities, and was generally recognized as an exemplary student carried no water at all for the scandalized administrators. For whom all her redeeming qualities only deepened their disappointment with her deportment. (Aside: Do school administrators ever use the word “deportment anymore?”)

Never mind that it was record-breakingly cold. Standards are standards, conventions are conventions, and pants on girls are scandalous, sexualizing, gender-bending, and unladylike.

She was back the next day. In the same pair of heavy wool pants. Something about her mom and a lawyer and a decision that time could change even in public middle/junior-high schools.

I believe it’s now almost completely noncontroversial for girls to wear heavy wool pants (if not entire tuxedos... yet) to school. Even though not all that long ago it was transgressive and “career-ruining” enough warrant suspension or expulsion.

Same with photos. It’s not yet soaked in but it turns out people have bodies, and cameras, and libidos. It’s still transgressive, if considerably less career-ruining enough that I don’t think everybody should jump online in their altogethers. But before my 7th grader reaches my age I suspect it’ll be roughly as controversial as women in winter pants.

HNT - Too-Early Morning Shower

Uggh. Too-early morning shower. I usually have coffee first but there’s that terrible situation where you’re out and don’t want to go out for some with Hair By Mr. Pillow.

HNT - Word of the Day is Autopornography

The context is somewhat serious (the complex and conflicting sets of rights, roles, responsibilities, concerns, and laws surrounding young people “sexting”) but the term “autopornography,” from “‘Sexting’ and the First Amendment” by
Pace University School of Law’s John A. Humbach on SSRN is new to me. But obvious once you read it.

Autopornography, evidently, is the practice of taking and sharing erotic photos of one’s self. Eh. Better, I guess, than calling it "self pollution." But only barely. Or, I guess, barely. :-)

On Thursdays, though, I think a better term is…

HNT - "Photoshopping" With Lenses

I know I’m tall but I don’t think my legs look this long in real life. I blame the optics in the camera lens. A characteristic I’m sure fashion photographers may cheerfully exploit while contemplating France’s health warnings on Photoshopped images.

HNT - I Hate it When I Do That!

The perils of a double life, I guess. Progressive blogger by day, salacious gym rat by night.

So I just left a heartfelt comment on someone else’s blog. Since I don’t log into that comment system all that often I used an old macro (1Password for Mac — a generally excellent brain-cell saver) to restore the login name and password.

In addition to cleverly filling in the name and password fields it also… um… not so cleverly restored the text of the comment I’d used when I first stored the login info as long as a couple of years ago.

I wouldn’t be mentioning it at all if it hadn’t been for the minor detail that the text was… pretty much the opposite of what I meant to say: a flirty comment to an anonymous fellow HNT poster I thought I recognized. Appropriate to a friend’s blog, not so great for a first-time remark on someone else’s.

First of all, wow, what a cute teeny-weeny top! And cute, quirky upside-down smile! Happy Other HNT whoever you are.

Thanks!

And happy HNT again.

Yum, computer technology — my favorite thing on the planet! Except, of course, that would be blaming the technology instead of the person using it — me.

Sigh. At least it wasn’t my mom’s senior-center website. Again! This time! (I hate it whenever I do that!) Whom the gods would destroy they first make bloggers.

On a lighter note, whom one’s friends one would like to keep one first takes a shower after working out late the night before.
