So something I’ve been meaning to do for more than the two-and-a-half years I’ve been blogging (I used the nom de plume ‘figleaf’ in a previous discussion forum) was to actually grab some fig leaves from the many fig trees that were brought to the Northwest by Mediterranean immigrants generations ago.
I’m not sure what too so long but… I guess no time like the present.
It’s pretty obvious why ancient aphorists, and Victorian Bowdlerizer chose fig leaves to cover the genitals. But, by traditions both ancient and Victorian I’m entirely, decently half-nekkid.

Happy HNT (or Half-nekkid Thursday!)

In the time of Queen Victoria, I believe, they covered the genitalia on the statue of David by Michelangelo with a ceramic fig leaf so as not to embarrass the royal ladies.
We, on the other hand, are not royal, nor are we easily embarrassed.
We also, I daresay, have very vivid and creative imaginations. So, figleaf or not.....

The gods are angry.
Well, maybe not all the gods, but the mood on Mount Olympus has been rather touchy since Pan showed up at a recent banquet. The nymphs followed the clip-clop of his hooved feet across the marble floor as he approached the main table. When Pan handed a copy of the above HNT photo to Apollo, that fair-haired god dropped both his jaw and a goblet of ambrosia when he saw that a mere mortal sported a figleaf bigger than his.
While a few gods may be angry, rumor has it that the nymphs and goddesses are delighted.
Great photo, Figleaf. Happy HNT!
[Yeah, I love that belvedere fig leaf, Kochanie. The nice thing about mine though? Unlike the silver one, when left in contact with very warm skin real fig leaves wilt. :-) Thanks. --fl]
