The phone goes off at o-dark o’clock: an auto-dialer from school about the snow closure.
Stump downstairs, pants in hand.
Pause to consider lighting the tree.
Realize… coffee first.
Then pants.
Then tree.

I love the look of an unlit Christmas tree in the early-dark morning. Something about it is like the pause of breath in anticipation...like something wonderful is going to happen soon.
And not to neglect the obvious, but honestly, you're the best present under (sort of) that tree. :)
