I’ve never particularly cared for the penis euphemism “junk.” As in “junk in the trunk.” I’m not even sure where it comes from.
But then…
This afternoon I think I got a clue while deleting the usual rivers of spam!

I'd only ever heard "junk in the trunk" used to refer to a woman having an ample and/or shapely bottom. I think it's from an old hip hop song. It always made sense to me: That part of your body is always behind you, just like the trunk of the car is always behind you when you're in the car.
When making reference to male genitalia, I'd just heard it referred to as "my junk." Maybe it's an allusion to a powerful Chinese warship. Or....not.
