Spoiling the whole bunch -- dudes vs. nerds

Don’t get me wrong. We’re now a cool-dude’s computer household even though our kids keep asking if I can somehow make it run “Jurassic Park?” (Like most kid’s games it only runs on nerdy guy’s computers.) And my partner, who’s confronting her first-ever laptop, spent the better part of her first day hissing “I know this is supposed to be easier!”

So. Who do you think is better in bed anyway? The kind of nerdy cubicle denizen who’s smart, versatile, and telecommutes in his nightgown, or the kind of arrogant but stylish art roach who spends a lot of time telling you how privileged you ought to feel getting to be with him and all.

(If you think I have an easy answer I don’t. Neither seems like much of a catch.)

Have you not seen one of the greatest movies to come out of the '80's?
Revenge of the Nerds?

In it a cheerleader, who has just found out she's had sex with a nerd, asks the nerd how he got so good at sex?
his reply?
He's always thinking about sex so how could he not be good?

[Agreed! There was the subtext, also, that the nerds kept thinking how lucky they were, while the jocks thought the cheerleaders should feel lucky to be with them. And that would make which group of men more attentive? Thanks, Madame!

I love those commercials. Have to admit that I haven't tried the latest Macs. 2000 was the last time, and I didn't really like them that much, probably because I was so conditioned (for want of a better word) using the Windows OS. In my publishing jog a few years after that, the Mac was the bee's knees for graphics, desktop publishing, and I think that's the case now. So I'd pick the Mac over the IBM compatible for that. But I write, so I don't think it will make a difference what I use.

In bed... the art roach can always have a small dick. Isn't there a third option? I'd take Tarzan (seriously). :))

[Yup, I was thinking a third option might be a better bet. Thanks, Anastasia. --fl]

Oh, I don't know.... I have always been fond of the geeky boys... All that self-engineered angst has to be worked off somehow!

[Good point about the self-engineered angst, Lushlyme. Thanks. --fl]

Read all about it. There is a reason why there are nerds AND dudes (if you say that's what he is) in the world.

And I have to agree with your partner: laptops? hissssssssss ....... Don't even start to try to convert me.

[Oh I love my laptop and wouldn't want to go back. It's just so wonderful to be able to work at home on the dining room table and then take it outside when it's nice. A huge improvement over what I used to call my "above ground dungeon" where I worked before. Thanks, A. --fl]

This is a theme I've been musing on myself. I'd like to give the art roach a spin in the sack, wrap him around my finger by stroking his ego, and then turn him down in public for a date with the nerd.

Does that make me a bad person?

[Well, it's never a good idea to use a real person like that but fictional characters like the ones in the ads? Why not? Write whatever ending you please. :-) Thanks, Preheated. --fl]

I'm firmly in the geeks-make-better-lovers camp. (Thanks, Revenge of the Nerds.) But I also think we're well past the point where all nerds are portly white dudes with glasses. Which I'm sure is good news for people whose tastes run a different direction entirely.

[I was hanging in the local Apple Store (waiting half an hour for a they-have-to-do-it-for-you RAM upgrade for a Mac Mini, a five minute do-it-yourselfer for a PC) and the were running all the ads with no sound on the wa`ll-sized screen in the back. The nerdy guy's actually pretty slender and might even be a little buff. Oh well. Truth in advertising and all that. :-) Thanks, Gander. --fl]

Maybe nerdy guys and cool guys are made for each other? ;)

(And personally, I'll take the nerd any day. I think it's partially that arrogance is a huge turn off for me.)

[Wow. A whole community slash-fic site for nerdy and dude. Thanks, Enne! --fl]

I always say, when confronted with a choice, always take the cuter one! :) So I'll go with the cute artsy type being better in bed. And even if he's not, he'll be easier on the eyes while he's not performing well. :)

HUGS...

I've dated design students and computer science students and I have to say that the computer science students are much more likely to have sheets on their beds and something not moldy to offer you for breakfast.
And that means a lot more than those fancy-pants cool guys seem to think.
But once they're out of school I don't think there's much of a difference (except as individuals).

[Well said, Colette. Thanks. --fl]
